River Downs "Regular Guy" John Engelhardt
Nominated for "best On_Air Racing Analyst"

The Thoroughbred Times has published its nominees for end of the year honors in several racing categories and among them is John Engelhardt who has hosted "The Regular Guy" handicapping show from River Downs over the past ten years. He is named in the category that features Best On-Air Racing Analyst.

"I had no idea I was even nominated," stated Engelhardt who is also the Director of Publicity and Public Relations at the Cincinnati thoroughbred racetrack. Considering that we broadcast from a smaller racing market, it's an honor to be named alongside New York's Andy Serling, Keeneland's Mike Battaglia, Ron Nicoletti from Gulfstream Park and former River Downs announcer Terry Wallace, who does an outstanding job from Oaklawn Park - just to name a few."

Engelhardt's style of analyzing the races differs a bit from most as he utilizes an overhead camera to teach fans how to find handicapping angles in the Daily Racing Form, his major sponsor. He often attends the morning workouts and makes frequent jaunts to the paddock between races for a look at the horses and to question trainers about any changes they may have made.

"We try to have fun on 'The Regular Guy Handicapping Show', while still helping our fans learn how to find winners," said Engelhardt. "The television crew from Charlson Broadcasting does a great job in pulling up replays for horses to watch and the myriad of co-hosts often have a different perspective than mine, which is what this game is all about. You're not playing against the house in racing, you're playing against everyone else that is betting on that race."
